Eyes Open to the World
Memories of Travel in Wool
Join Karen Miller as she tells how her love of art and travel laid the path for her own career as a fiber artist. Featuring the works and advice from over thirty contributors and Karen's own journeys to the islands of the North Atlantic, Eyes Open to the World is a must–have resource of shared experiences for new and established fiber artists alike. Karen encourages you at every step to see the artist in yourself and to set that artist free to tell your own stories.
Are you interested in hooking from photos of your own travels? Travel with Karen and the talented rug hookers you will find in the book to discover the possibilities. You will be amazed at what these artists have accomplished and you will be inspired to begin your own travel piece.
Karen Miller first took up a hook in 2008 and has been creating original designs in her studio in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada ever since. Originally drawn to the rugged palette of the east coast of Canada and the islands of the North Atlantic, she now follows her inspirations into whatever unlikely places they may take her, from the rigours of motherhood and the world that her children are growing into to the colours that you find under your feet on a walk through the woods. She is a teacher and frequent contributor to Rug Hooking magazine, where she encourages everyone to pick up a hook, a pen, a brush, and let their imagination run. She has shown her work in group and solo shows across Canada and the United States and she is a passionate believer that hooking and fiber art are every bit as much an art form as any other medium.
